Phase 1 – survey and audit

The Certified Sustainable accreditation process begins with a detailed audit of your entire waste management and recycling activities, carried out by your appointed Certified Sustainable advisor. This will cover both up and downstream and will identify exactly where your waste ends up, be it here in the UK or overseas, and will include:

  • Waste types and volumes
  • Where it goes and what (really) happens to it
  • Contractors used, costs and copies of receivers permits
  • Results will be viewable via the web portal on the Certified Sustainable website and scored with a simple “traffic lights” system based on the Waste Hierarchy

Phase 2 – roadmap

Once armed with all the information regarding your waste streams, then we can really get to work by creating a detailed and realistic plan of action to improve your sustainability (and probably make significant cost savings). Our leading industry experts will help you to:

  • Elevate your waste up the hierarchy, proactively find alternatives to landfill and introduce you to new methodologies and more efficient processes for dealing with waste. This may mean you are could receive rebates on waste streams that you currently pay to dispose of.
  • Cut through the various layers of mark-up in the waste management supply chain, and identify those at the end of the chain that you should really be dealing with.
  • Create new on-site processes and guidelines to ensure waste is sorted and processed correctly at source for reuse or recycling.
  • This will all be visible via your web portal on the Certified Sustainable website, complete with a high-level strategic summary for the benefit of the CEO and other senior personnel.

“The roadmap is equally relevant to onsite operatives as it is the CEO”

Phase 3 – implementation and improvement

Your Certified Sustainable membership goes beyond simply pointing you in the right direction, we work with you to help you to implement more responsible and proactive waste management strategies.

  • Your CS advisor will meet with you throughout the year to review progress and suggest areas for improvement.
  • Your web portal will be kept up to date, so all interested parties from within your organisation, from the CEO to operators, can view progress and understand their role in improving sustainability.
  • Each member will also be subject to scrutiny, to ensure that momentum is maintained and that there are no relapses to the “bad old ways”.
